How close-fitting is it?

Close through the bust and waist, easy through the hip. There's almost no ease in the bodice — our model's bust is 78cm and the XS measures 79cm — while the A-line skirt is cut with room to spare. So size by your bust and waist, check the hips out of habit, and if you're between sizes take the larger one: the bodice is where a cheongsam shows strain.

It's sleeveless — how much does it cover?

Shoulders and arms are bare, with contrast piping finishing the armholes so it looks right worn on its own. The neckline is high and closed at the mandarin collar, so it covers more at the top than most sleeveless dresses. If you'd rather have your arms covered, a plain cream or green cardigan works without competing with the print.

There's metallic thread in it — will it feel scratchy?

Not against you. The dress is fully lined, so smooth poly-blend is what touches your skin. The lurex is woven into the outer fabric rather than sitting on the surface, so the shimmer reads as texture rather than sparkle.

How does it open?

A zip at the back. The pankou (盘扣) knots with their tassel accents are decorative, which is what keeps the curved dajin (大襟) line unbroken across the bodice — the knots are the detail, the zip does the work.

How long is it, and are the pockets real?

42–43" (106–110cm) from the top of the shoulder to the hem — our model is 165cm and wears the XS, where it falls to mid-calf. And yes, the pockets are real: two of them, set into the side seams so they stay flat against the A-line.

What do I wear it with?

It's a whole outfit on its own. Nude or white heels, small gold or pearl earrings, and a clutch. Skip a necklace — the collar and the pankou knots already sit at the neckline.

How do I keep it looking new?

Zip it up first, then wash cool with similar colours on a gentle cycle, ideally inside a laundry bag so the textured jacquard and the tassels don't snag. Hang to dry out of direct sunlight. It needs very little pressing — low heat on the reverse, going around the pankou knots and piping rather than over them.
