Do the sequins scratch?

Not against you — the vest is fully lined, so what touches your skin is smooth poly-blend, not embroidery. The outside is the part to mind: sequins and raised embroidery can catch on a bag strap, a watch or a chunky ring, so handle it the way you would anything beaded.

How does it fasten?

With the pankou (盘扣) knots themselves — they're the real closure, not decoration. Dajin (大襟) means the front crosses over and fastens at the side instead of down the middle, so the knots run from the collar diagonally across the chest and down the side, each finished with a pearl accent. Loop them one by one to put it on; there's no zip to hide anywhere.

The mesh looks sheer — is it?

The embroidered tulle is sheer on its own, which is why it's backed with a full lining. Worn as it comes, nothing shows through.

How does it fit?

Boxy and relaxed — it's a vest meant to sit over something, not to fit close. There's a lot of ease built in: our model has a 78cm bust and wears the XS. The fabric doesn't stretch, so size by your bust and expect it to skim rather than shape.

What do I wear under it?

It's sleeveless, so your arms and shoulders are bare. Most people wear it over a fitted top, a slip dress or a long skirt — a plain one, so the embroidery stays the focus. The piping at the armholes is finished, so it looks right worn on its own too.

How long is it?

22–23" (55–59cm) from the top of the shoulder to the hem. Our model is 165cm and wears the XS — on her it ends at the top of the hip, just past the waistband of her skirt. That's what makes it sit neatly over a high-waisted skirt or trousers.

What do I wear it with?

For reunion dinner or visiting, the matching Yuan Fen satin skirt as the model wears it, with heels and small pearl earrings. For something less dressed-up, wide-leg trousers in a plain colour and flats. Keep necklaces off — the mandarin collar and pankou (盘扣) closures are the detail.

How do I keep it looking new?

Treat it as a delicate piece. Steam it rather than pressing, or iron inside out on low heat so the heat never touches the sequins directly. Because of the sequin finishing, hand wash cool or dry clean only — no machine. Never wring it, and dry it flat out of direct sunlight. Store it hanging, away from anything with hooks or zips.
