Material: Lurex brocade (84% recycled polyester, 16% lurex) over a soft recycled poly-blend lining — the metallic thread is woven into the pattern for depth rather than shine, and the lining keeps it smooth to wear.
With the five pankou (盘扣) knots down the centre front, each in a contrast colour against the navy. They loop closed one by one — there are no hidden buttons or zips. The mandarin collar sits closed at the neck without being tight.
How does it fit?
Relaxed and straight — a samfu shape, cut to hang rather than follow the body. Our model is 183cm with a 97cm chest and wears the L. The brocade doesn't stretch, so size by his chest and expect room through the body rather than a close fit.
There's metallic thread in it — will it feel scratchy?
Not against him. The shirt is fully lined, so smooth poly-blend is what touches the skin. The lurex is woven into the brocade as part of the landscape pattern, so it adds depth rather than shine.
Does he need to tuck it in?
No. The hem is straight-cut and finished to be worn out, which is how a samfu top is meant to sit. Worn loose over trousers it stays tidy through a long meal.
Will he be warm in it?
It's lined, so warmer than a plain shirt, but the sleeves are short and the brocade is light — comfortable for air-conditioned restaurants and indoor visiting. For an outdoor lunch in full sun, he'll feel the lining.
What does he wear it with?
Stone, cream or beige trousers, as the model wears them, with loafers or clean white sneakers for something easier. Navy or charcoal also works for a quieter, tonal look. Keep the bottoms plain — the scenic weave is the detail.
How do I keep it looking new?
Close the pankou knots first, then wash cool with similar colours on a gentle cycle, ideally inside a laundry bag so the brocade doesn't snag. Hang to dry out of direct sunlight. It needs very little pressing — low heat on the reverse, going around the knots and piping rather than over them.
