How do I choose his size?

Measure his chest and use the guide below, with age as a starting point only — children the same age vary a lot. For reference, our model is 106cm with a 57cm chest and wears the M. Check the length in the chart too, so you know where the hem will sit on him.

There's metallic thread in it — will it feel scratchy?

Not against him. The shirt is fully lined, so smooth poly-blend is what touches his skin. The lurex is woven into the brocade as part of the landscape pattern, so it adds depth rather than sparkle.

Does it need to be tucked in?

No — the hem is straight-cut and finished to be worn out over trousers, which is how a samfu top is meant to sit. One less thing to keep fixing through the afternoon.

Will he be too warm?

It's lined, so warmer than a plain t-shirt, but the sleeves are short and the brocade is light — comfortable for indoor visiting and air-conditioned restaurants. In full sun outdoors, he'll feel the lining.

What does he wear it with?

Cream, beige or stone trousers, as the model wears them, with loafers or clean white sneakers. Keep the bottoms plain — the scenic weave is the detail, and navy goes with almost anything.

How do I keep it looking new?

Close the pankou (盘扣) knots first, then wash cool with similar colours on a gentle cycle, ideally inside a laundry bag so the brocade doesn't snag. Hang to dry out of direct sunlight. It needs very little pressing — low heat on the reverse, going around the knots rather than over them.
