A small garden, quietly worn.
A boys' samfu top in soft-sheen satin, with a mandarin collar in a textured floral, five pankou (盘扣) knots down the front and contrast trim tracing each one. A floral centre panel runs the length of the shirt and draws the eye up — festive without being fussy, and comfortable enough that he'll keep it on all afternoon.
Material: Soft-sheen satin (80% recycled polyester, 20% nylon) over a soft recycled poly-blend lining — lustrous and lightweight, so it looks dressed-up without feeling heavy on him.
What you're probably wondering
How do I choose his size?
Measure his chest and use the guide below, with age as a starting point only — children the same age vary a lot. For reference, our model is 106cm with a 57cm chest and wears the M. Check the length in the chart too, so you know where the hem will sit on him.
Will it be scratchy or stiff?
No. It's fully lined, so the smooth lining is what touches him, and the satin is light rather than crisp. The straight cut and short sleeves leave him free to move.
Does satin crease or mark easily?
Satin is a delicate fabric, the way it is on any piece — it creases more readily than a cotton shirt and can catch on rough surfaces. Hang it up rather than folding it into a bag, and it will look fresh straight out of the wardrobe.
Does it need to be tucked in?
No — the hem is straight-cut and finished to be worn out over trousers, which is how a samfu top is meant to sit. One less thing to keep fixing through the afternoon.
Will he be too warm?
It's lined, so warmer than a plain t-shirt, but the sleeves are short and the satin is light — comfortable for indoor visiting and air-conditioned restaurants. In full sun outdoors, he'll feel the lining.
What does he wear it with?
Cream, beige or stone trousers, as the model wears it, with loafers or clean white sneakers. Navy or charcoal works too and makes it less dressy. Keep the bottoms plain — the floral panel down the front is the detail.
How do I keep it looking new?
Close the pankou (盘扣) knots first, then wash cool with similar colours on a gentle cycle, ideally inside a laundry bag so the satin doesn't snag. Hang to dry out of direct sunlight. Press on low heat on the reverse, going around the knots and the trim rather than over them.
