They're white and openwork — are they see-through?

No. The openwork is the design, but there's a lining underneath, so they're completely opaque. It's the first thing we check on anything pale, and particularly on shorts.

How short are they?

Between 14 and 16 inches in total length, depending on size, so they sit mid-thigh on our model at 158cm. The high waist means most of that length is above the leg rather than below it — they're shorter than the number suggests. On a taller frame they'll sit a little higher.

Do they have pockets?

Yes, at the sides. They sit flat within the structure so they don't add bulk at the hip.

Which size should I take?

Go by your waist — these sit high, so that's what decides the fit. There's no stretch and the closure is a side zip rather than elastic, so if you're between sizes, take the larger one.

What do I wear them with?

A plain white or nude top keeps it quiet and lets the embroidery do the work — a fine knit, a simple camisole, or a lace top if you'd like the detail to carry through. Flat sandals for the day, a heeled sandal in the evening.

How do I keep them looking new?

Light ironing on low heat, on the reverse so the openwork and the scalloped hem aren't pressed flat. Wash gently and separately from darker colours, hang to dry in shade, and keep them away from bleach and the tumble dryer.
