This is cut close — how do I get the size right?

Three measurements matter here, not one: bust, waist and hips. A cheongsam is made to follow the body, and this one has almost no ease built in — our model's bust is 78cm and the XS measures 79cm. Measure all three, find the size where your largest measurement fits, and remember the fabric doesn't stretch. If you're between sizes, take the larger one: a cheongsam that pulls across the hip looks tight rather than fitted.

Will the beading scratch?

Not against you — the dress is fully lined, so smooth poly-blend is what touches your skin. The beading and sequins sit on the outside, where they're delicate the way any embellished piece is.

How does it open?

A zip at the back, running the length of the bodice. That's what keeps the overlap front and its pankou (盘扣) knots unbroken across the chest — the knots are the detail, the zip does the work. Zip slowly near the embroidery so nothing catches.

How long is it?

44–46" (113–117cm) from the top of the shoulder to the hem. Our model is 165cm and wears the XS — on her it falls to mid-calf. On a shorter frame expect it closer to the ankle, and on a taller one just below the knee.

What do I wear underneath?

Smooth, seamless underwear — satin shows every line, and this dress sits close. Nude is the safest colour under yellow. Nothing else is needed: it's fully lined and non-sheer.

Can I sit and eat comfortably in it?

Yes, if you've sized by the measurement that matters. The A-line releases below the hip so your legs are free, and the cap sleeves don't bind at the shoulder. What to watch is the waist — a long dinner is the wrong time to find out you've sized down.

What do I wear it with?

It's a whole outfit on its own. Nude or gold heels, small pearl or gold earrings, and a clutch. Skip a necklace — the mandarin collar and the pankou knots already sit at the neckline.

How do I keep it looking new?

Hand wash cool or dry clean — not the machine, because of the beading and sequin finishing. Never wring it, and dry flat out of direct sunlight. For creases, steam rather than press, or use low heat around the embellished areas and never let the iron touch the beading directly.
